Statement Regarding The United States Supreme Court Ruling on President Trump’s Travel Ban

"In the third revision of the Travel Ban, the Trump Administration penned a more nuanced version that includes North Korea and Venezuela; therefore, the Supreme Court ruling that it is not a religious ban is technically true. The ban’s language gives the administration the ability to lift countries and add countries if they meet requirements. Congress should follow the status of countries listed to make sure there is accountability with the administration’s choices of countries and not just a list they can change to fit another agenda.

However, we have to talk about the fact that certain countries listed on the Travel Ban are in the middle of humanitarian disasters where people in dire situations are seeking refuge. This Travel Ban, along with our Zero Tolerance Border policy, is putting America in a position of denying the chance of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to many across the globe who are facing imminent death with no hope. It makes me ashamed of what we have become. Do not let politicians and lawmakers tell you there is no other way, that this is our only option. Do not settle for that. We can protect our borders and also be a beacon of hope for refugees at the same time.”
