Rep. Jeramey Anderson declares for United States Congress MS-04
MOSS POINT, Mississippi –Rep. Jeramey Anderson of Moss Point announced today that he will seek the 2018 Democratic nomination for Mississippi’s 4th Congressional District seat in the United States Congress. Rep. Anderson said he would tackle problems like poor schools, economic hardships and government transparency, adding that a failure of bi-partisanship is to blame for not meeting the nation's challenges and those of hardworking Mississippians.
"In today’s society bipartisanship isn’t an option anymore - it is a requirement if we are to effectively confront the real crises facing not only our state but the nation as well. We’re leading the effort in our State to break through partisan gridlock to reestablish political cooperation and I would like to take that to Washington,” said Rep. Anderson.
The Moss Point native is a Democratic member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, representing District 110. Elected to the chamber through a special election in November 2013 at 21 years old, Rep. Anderson became the youngest member ever elected to the Mississippi Legislature and the youngest African American elected to a legislature in United States history. He received his associate’s degree in criminal justice from Pearl River Community College and his bachelor’s degree in homeland security from Tulane University. At the age of 16, Rep. Anderson founded Foundation for a Brighter America, a non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring young boys ages 11-18. Currently, he serves as the program's executive director.
“I will continue to be the voice of reason, bipartisanship, compassion and understand as I have in the Mississippi Legislature, understanding the struggles of everyday hardworking folks”, said Rep. Anderson.
Since inauguration on his 22nd birthday, Rep. Anderson has appeared on MSNBC, featured in the NAACP magazine, and a guest on the Tom Joyner morning show with Roland Martin. He also appeared in Essence magazine as a future presidential candidate. He has spoken at several high school and college commencements all across the country and was recognized as a “Young Riser” at the 2015 BET Honors by BET. Most recently, he was honored following the opening session of the United Nations as one of the world's most influential people of African descent under 40 by MIPAD.
Re-elected by 80% of the electorate in 2015, Rep. Anderson is currently serving his second term as the District 110 State Representative. Upon being re-elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives, his Democratic colleagues elected him to serve in the House Democratic leadership as Democratic Caucus secretary/treasurer.

Rep. Anderson current serves on the advisory board for "Let America Vote," an organization dedicated to winning the public debate over voter suppression in the United States. He also serves as co-chairman for the Mississippi Future Caucus, a bipartisan caucus for lawmakers under 40 whose purpose is to break through partisan gridlock to reestablish political cooperation and create meaningful progress through government institutions.
During his time in the state legislature, Rep. Anderson has authored and co-authored legislation centered around increasing minimum wage, full funding for public education, wage equality, criminal justice reform and childcare subsidies.
